Every year the evolution in the space of the tech and internet brings out something better. As for the mobile internet, it was the 5G.

The speeds from the 5G network not only enhanced the existing technologies, it helped bring forth more crazy ideas like the Metaverse and other AI-powered projects like OpenAI. These advanced tech projects especially Metaverse won’t be usable until the users have access to gigabit speeds and those gigabit speeds are possible through the 5G. 

5G or 5G internet is the 5th generation of mobile technology. It is based on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations and offers everything that the previous generations offered. The higher data transfer rates (in gigabits), low latency, a bigger network capacity, and reliability were the most significant features of the 5g technology.

That said, this 5th generation of mobile technology has greatly impacted our lives as well as the industries that rely on it. We already have talked about what 5G technology is so, now, let me explain how it differs from the previous generations. 

The 1st generation of mobile technology was merely an analog signal, the 2nd generation became a little better with capabilities to carry and transmit digital voice, and the 3G brought mobile data to the people, the 4th generation was many steps ahead of the 3G and brought the mobile broadband to the existence, and then we had the 5G which further pushed the limits beyond the boundaries. 

The 5th generation improved the already-better mobile broadband. It unlocked multiple opportunities through its reliability and bigger capacity which offers speeds in gigabits, lower pings & latency, and overall better experience.

As of now, the major drawback of 5G is the infrastructure. Only a few countries from the 1st world can afford to install the infrastructure for the masses but a big chunk of other countries can’t keep up with that. Since the majority of the world’s population lives in less developed countries, it is difficult for technology to grow fully.

Let’s talk about the urban areas first. Previously, I had a 4G connection in my area and it was a lot weaker when compared to my high-speed Xfinity home Wi Fi. But now, the 5G infrastructure has become stronger closely matching the speed offered by most of Xfinity internet plans.  

As for the suburban and rural areas, some of the areas are covered by the 5G infrastructure while the rest is 4G. The 5G network has taken most of the traffic from the rural and suburban areas so, the 4G network can easily carry the rest of the traffic.

Real-Time Communication: The arrival of 5G technology has significantly enhanced the quality and reliability of real-time communication. 

Video calls, which were once plagued by buffering and low resolution, now benefit from higher speeds and lower latency. This improvement means clearer images and more fluid conversations, making virtual interactions almost as good as face-to-face meetings.
